SUMMARY:

Zydus Pharmaceuticals (USA) Inc. is seeking a candidate for a Senior Counsel position. The position will report directly to the VP, General Counsel and Compliance Officer. Under the general direction of the VP, General Counsel and Compliance Officer, the Senior Counsel will perform a variety of tasks related to the handling of legal cases and corporate governance functions of the company. While the Senior Counsel will primarily support the litigation and corporate governance functions of the legal department, general support of the legal department is expected. The Senior Counsel must have sufficient experience and ability to function as an independent professional.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage litigation matters including working with company associates to gather information needed for the development of case strategies, production of witnesses for deposition and production of relevant documents and data to respond to discovery requests. Supervise outside counsel.
  • Prepare materials for the Board of Directors and schedule required meetings, maintain Board books and other corporate records and providing services for general corporate matters.
  • Perform legal research and analysis as needed.
  • Draft basic legal documents, including standard form commercial contracts, confidentiality agreements and amendments.
  • Provide general legal support to VP, General Counsel on corporate business matters as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS - SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful candidate will possess the ability to meet critical and short deadlines, handle confidential client information, work independently and as part of a team, be very organized and proactive, possess excellent writing and verbal skills and be able to interact with all levels of the organization. In addition:
  • A JD from an ABA-accredited program.
  • A minimum of 3 years large law firm or in-house experience.
  • Pharmaceutical experience a plus.
  • Flexibility and the ability to multi-task, prioritize projects and manage deadlines.
  • Well-organized self-starter who is proactive in soliciting and taking on projects.
  • Possess a working balance of both efficiency and detail-orientation.
  • Strong professional communication skills (in person, via telephone and in writing).
  • Strong judgment and ability to resolve issues effectively and creatively.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a JD from an ABA-accredited law school with a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience, with a focus on litigation and/or corporate governance. A combination of large law firm and in-house experience and background in pharmaceuticals is highly desirable.

TRAVEL:

  • Limited travel may be required from time to time.
